The central idea behind the project was to create a more efficient administrative co-operation between cities, citizens and institutions by the adoption of the living labs (LL) concept. LL is a methodology or an environment, dealing with user-centred, open innovation ecosystems in a territorial context and involves four activities: co-creation by users and producers, exploration of emerging usages and behaviours, experimentation of live scenarios within communities, evaluation of concepts and products according to socio-ergonomic, economic criteria. The project established a LL at Pécs at the premises of the University and improved the new living lab of Koprivnica. The partners developed different parts of the labs to share capacities: Pécs put focus on involving citizens by awareness raising on decarbonisation and explaining technologies the city provides for them and Koprivnica improved their existing LL that provides public lighting poles for installation of different LED lighting products with AR content as an innovative knowledge transfer tool so that the citizens, suppliers and other cities can examine the lighting characteristics, make remarks and – in case of other cities – prepare decisions on investments.
